All About Implants

My teeth were starting to deteriorate, and I was running out of options to repair them. The dentist gave me a choice. I could wait until the bone loss was so bad that I would have to have my teeth removed and get dentures, or I could have them removed now and get dental implants. I opted for the implants. If you’re thinking of getting dental implants, you probably have a lot of questions. I love mine, but they took some getting used to. In this blog, I’m sharing my experience and all the information that I picked up throughout my implant experience. You can find out what the procedure entails, how to prepare for your implants, and how to care for them once they’re in.

Find A Dentist Who's Right For Your Child

by Alfredo Moore

When you look for a dentist for your children, you want to look for someone that is not a one-trick pony. The old "I'll give you a treat if you're good" routine might work on some kids, but what does your dentist do when a treat doesn't work? You could look for a children's dentist for your children and a different dentist for you and and your spouse, but it is sometimes easier just to have one family dentist, like those at Howley & Basara Family Dentistry PC, for everyone. Still, before you commit to one dentist for your whole family, you will want to make sure that they have the right skills.

The Rambunctious Child

Children are infamous for their high level of curiosity and for their activity. The same office that feels comfortable and relaxing for an adult can make a child feel anxious and fidgety. If you have a rambunctious child, you should look for a dentist who has plenty of toys for children to play with, movies to watch, books to read, etc. The more there is to keep your children busy, the less you have to worry about them using the cord to the blinds as a rappelling rope.

The Pain-Intolerant Child

If you have older children who have no problem sitting still, you still may have other concerns. For example, if you have a child who can't stand pain, then you need to look for a dentist who practices sedation dentistry. Sometimes the best way to deal with an anxiety attack is to completely block the trigger. With sedation dentistry, you or your child can be put under with laughing gas for the whole dental visit whether you are getting a root canal or just a routine check-up.

The Sensitive Child

Sometimes toys and anesthetics are not enough. Sometimes something as small as the way a dentist or hygienist looks at or speaks to a child can be enough to trigger an aversion to going to the dentist. Thus, you should look for a dentist who has experience with children and hires staff who are good at working with children. A friendly hygienist can help a child to feel comfortable when toys and rewards are not enough.

There are a plethora of dentists in most cities, which should help make it easier for you to choose one for your family. Dentists understand that different patients have different needs, so you will find some dentists who cater to adults, some who cater to children, and some who cater to families just like yours.
