All About Implants

My teeth were starting to deteriorate, and I was running out of options to repair them. The dentist gave me a choice. I could wait until the bone loss was so bad that I would have to have my teeth removed and get dentures, or I could have them removed now and get dental implants. I opted for the implants. If you’re thinking of getting dental implants, you probably have a lot of questions. I love mine, but they took some getting used to. In this blog, I’m sharing my experience and all the information that I picked up throughout my implant experience. You can find out what the procedure entails, how to prepare for your implants, and how to care for them once they’re in.

A Fruit Lover's Guide To Protecting His/Her Teeth

by Alfredo Moore

Many fruits are good for your health, but special care has to be given to tooth enamel from the acid in some of the delicious treats. You need to keep the saliva flowing to prevent the onset of cavities. Read on for a few great pointers.

Balance Acidic Foods: It is advisable to eat acidic foods with other foods that are low in sugar and acids. For example, if you eat an apple, avoid drinking an acidic soft drink or glass of juice. Try eating nuts, spinach, or some dairy products to offset the acidic cycle.

Go Firm and Crunchy: It is good to eat an apple or pear that is high in water and fiber. The chewing also provides the saliva necessary to remove other food particles and bacteria while stimulating your gums. The water content dilutes the ill effects caused by the sugary/acidic fruits.

Be Cheesy: According to a study completed in 2013, three selected groups were given one product each to consume for three minutes; cheddar cheese, sugar-free yogurt, and milk. After that time, each group swished with water and was tested for the pH levels.

The study found that your tooth enamel is protected by the increased pH level provided by cheese and the chewing action because it produces saliva. The cheese components also stuck to the teeth to provide a protective layer from acid.

Strawberries Are Excellent: You can receive potassium, vitamin C, fiber, folic acid, and malic acid from strawberries. You can also use strawberries mixed with baking soda as toothpaste. You just need to be sure to floss afterwards to remove any of the seeds left behind. After all, approximately 200 seeds are on one strawberry.

Wait to Brush: If you enjoy consuming fruits containing citric acids such as oranges, lemons, and grapefruits, you should wait approximately 30 minutes before you brush. If you brush too soon, you can damage the enamel because it is in a weakened state. You should try to eat foods low in sugar and carbohydrates after consuming an acidic fruit. Brushing before they are consumed and drinking a glass of water after will also help reduce the acids.

By all means, enjoy the benefits of eating healthy fruits, but just take the additional steps to protect the tooth's enamel surface. These tips should set you on the right path, but you should also maintain regular dental checkups as recommended by your dentist.
