All About Implants

My teeth were starting to deteriorate, and I was running out of options to repair them. The dentist gave me a choice. I could wait until the bone loss was so bad that I would have to have my teeth removed and get dentures, or I could have them removed now and get dental implants. I opted for the implants. If you’re thinking of getting dental implants, you probably have a lot of questions. I love mine, but they took some getting used to. In this blog, I’m sharing my experience and all the information that I picked up throughout my implant experience. You can find out what the procedure entails, how to prepare for your implants, and how to care for them once they’re in.

Why Many Adults Who Need Braces Don't Get Them

by Alfredo Moore

Many adults know they need orthodontic treatment, but they are still reluctant to get braces. Below are some of the reasons for this reluctance and an explanation of why anyone who feels this way should still get orthodontic treatment.

They Think It Is Ineffective

Since many people who need braces usually get them in their childhood, many adults think braces are not effective in old age. Many adults assume that their dental alignment is set in stone and nothing can change them.

The reality is that anyone can benefit from orthodontic treatment; the treatment doesn't depend on age. The treatment might take longer in adulthood. Adults may also require other forms of treatments other than braces. In the end, however, the adult teeth do get aligned.

They Don't Want to Stand Out

Many adults do get braces, but they are not so many that you will run into several of them in a typical day. For example, you might find that no one wears braces in your place of work. As such, you might be afraid that you will stand out from your colleagues once you start wearing braces.

Fortunately, most adults with braces find out that many people don't even talk about braces. In many cases, those who mention the braces are those who have had braces or are thinking about getting them.

They Don't Like How Braces Look

Some people also don't like how braces change their looks or how they look when they talk or smile with braces. This may be of great concern to you if your profession involves talking or smiling a lot. Maybe you are a receptionist or performing artist, and you don't like how braces can change your appearance.

Two things should help you overcome these reservations. First, some braces are not as conspicuous as traditional metal braces. You can get clear aligners or lingual braces (if your conditions allow it) that are relatively invisible to others. Secondly, even if the braces do change your appearance, your smile will be vastly improved at the end of your treatment, so it is worth it.

They Don't Like the Changes and Inconvenience

Lastly, many people also don't get braces because they don't like to deal with change. It is true that braces involve considerable changes. For example, you have to learn how to talk, eat, and take care of your oral hygiene with braces.

There isn't a lot you can do to get rid of the changes, but following your orthodontist's advice to the letter can help you deal with them. These changes may be inconvenient, but those who have finished their orthodontic treatment say the inconveniences are worth the result.
