All About Implants

My teeth were starting to deteriorate, and I was running out of options to repair them. The dentist gave me a choice. I could wait until the bone loss was so bad that I would have to have my teeth removed and get dentures, or I could have them removed now and get dental implants. I opted for the implants. If you’re thinking of getting dental implants, you probably have a lot of questions. I love mine, but they took some getting used to. In this blog, I’m sharing my experience and all the information that I picked up throughout my implant experience. You can find out what the procedure entails, how to prepare for your implants, and how to care for them once they’re in.

How Does A Dentist Prepare Your Teeth For Dental Veneers?

by Alfredo Moore

Are you interested in getting dental veneers, but a bit worried about the process of having them placed on your teeth? That is because the installation process does require that the natural surface of your teeth are altered to make room for the veneers, which may give you some anxiety about the process. By knowing what a dentist will do to your teeth, you'll hopefully feel more comfortable with the procedure.

Taking The Impression

One of the first things that your dentist needs to do is take an impression of your teeth so that they know the exact size that the veneers should be. This will be one of the easiest parts of the process, and there are several ways to do it.

Some dentists prefer to use dental putty, which is when a putty-like substance is wrapped around your teeth. It is one of the most patient-friendly ways to make an impression since the putty is not going to leave a bad taste in your mouth or leave a mess. The dentist will remove the putty and then trim away any excess material to clean up the impression. This will need to be done twice if you are having veneers installed on your upper and lower teeth.

Removing The Enamel

Since the dental veneers require that a thin layer of enamel is removed from the teeth, your dentist will start the process by marking the amount of enamel that needs to be removed. They do not want to accidentally remove more enamel than what is necessary to get the job done. This is done by creating deep grooves on your teeth.

If your dentist needs to remove enamel, they'll use a special tool to go over each tooth and actually score it so that there is a groove of the exact amount of enamel removed. When the dentist is shaving down the tooth enamel, they can use those grooves as a guide so that they know not to go any further than that. In the end, each tooth should be smoothed out so that the groove can no longer be seen, with no additional enamel removed.
